Serco partners with The Purpose Coalition to drive countrywide social impact

Serco, the international partner of services to governments, has joined forces with the Purpose Coalition to drive social impact solutions that help break down barriers to opportunity.

The Purpose Coalition and Serco are partnering to produce an Impact Report that will detail how Serco is breaking down the barriers to opportunity, launching in the House of Commons in early 2025.

With more than 30,000 colleagues across the UK, people are at the heart of Serco’s operations, with a culture based on its values of trust, care, innovation and pride. These guide the company’s purpose to impact a better future and shape the way its colleagues conduct themselves.

The report will focus on Serco's efforts to support its employees, empower communities, and collaborate with its central and local government customers and suppliers of all sizes, especially SMEs, to drive equality of opportunity and social impact across Britain. It will highlight Serco's current impact and identify areas for further growth, serving as both a progress benchmark and a guide for future improvements.

Chair of the Breaking Down Barriers Commission, Nick Forbes CBE, said: “It is fantastic news that Serco is joining our work on breaking down barriers to opportunity. With its wide reach across place and sector, and its understanding of the needs of governments and the public sector, it can play a hugely important part in extending social impact right across the country. As a people-centric business - led by its UK & Europe CEO, Anthony Kirby – Serco recognises the critical importance of creating opportunities for its colleagues and for the communities it serves. There is also significant potential for Serco to deliver social value through its customers and supply chain and I am looking forward to working with the team there to drive change in a world where business becomes a force for good, encouraging more positive and measurable outcomes for everyone far beyond its core function.”

Anthony Kirby, Chief Executive of Serco in the UK & Europe said: “We are excited to be working with the Breaking Down Barriers Commission on this crucial topic, which is very important to me.

“Our 30,000 people work across the UK and have a positive impact, providing critical public services on behalf of the Government to millions of citizens every year. We recognise the huge contribution they make, and we are committed to providing them with opportunities to develop their careers through access to qualifications and help to secure career development.

Beyond providing opportunities for our colleagues, we deliver social impact in the communities where we operate – from supporting more than 3,000 local small business and charity partners to gifting more than £2m in Apprenticeship Levy funding to support training and job opportunities.”
