#LeadingWithPurpose Spotlight: Leigh Lafever-Ayer, VP/Human Resources Director at Enterprise Mobility
Our #LeadingWithPurpose Spotlight interview series sees organisational leaders explain what leading with purpose means to them and how they strive to make their organisation a force for good in society.
In this episode, read how Leigh Lafever-Ayer, VP/Human Resources Director at Enterprise Mobility, does so.
What inspires you personally to lead with purpose?
Personally, I am inspired by the great people that we bring into our organisation. Enterprise Mobility has a promote-from-within culture and I love seeing our team members grow, develop and advance in their careers.
Our values attracted me to the organisation and I have accomplished so much that, quite frankly, I didn’t see for myself as a graduate.
The opportunity to grow a business and develop future leaders is why I want to lead with purpose; it drives my commitment to our teams, and it’s fun!
Can you share a story or moment that shaped your own leadership?
After nearly a decade in my career, I realised that what really made me happy was to spend time training and developing team members. At the time, I was in an operational role I really enjoyed. However, days I spent focusing on recruiting and developing talent – and then seeing them succeed as leaders – is what gave me a buzz of energy; it helped me keep my ‘glass half full’ optimism.
I was, and still am, passionate about seeing people succeed and go further than they ever thought possible.
That decision set me on a path to make an international relocation which ultimately led me to the role I have today. My advice would be to follow what makes you happy professionally, and don’t be afraid to make a change.
Why is your organisation committed to breaking down barriers to opportunity?
Our values are our North Star that keep us on course. We want to create better experiences for our customers and for how the world moves – and to do that, we need great people.
Today in the UK, we recruit from more than 150 universities and aim to give everyone the opportunity to learn, grow, develop and advance through our 450+ branch network.
We have always had an inclusive recruitment process, looking for the very best talent to join our team.
It's especially rewarding when team members are the first generation in their families to attend university or complete an apprenticeship.
