Read: BBC commits to levelling up
The BBC has committed to levelling up the UK through a partnership with former Education Secretary Justine Greening.
The partnership will see the BBC develop a best practice plan to map its activity against a new levelling up framework, and share best practice. The Levelling Up Goals, launched earlier this year, are the UK’s first levelling up framework to focus efforts on driving equality of opportunity at key life stages, and other barriers that can stifle opportunity.
The Levelling Up Goals are the first major piece of work by some of the UK’s most purpose-led businesses, universities and public sector organisations, including Direct Line Group, bp, Compass Group, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and Liverpool John Moores University, that make up the Purpose Coalition.
Justine Greening said: “The BBC is an institution which reaches every corner of Britain and I’m thrilled to be working with their team to share best practice around levelling up. It’s great to see organisations recognising the huge role that they can play in the communities that they serve.
“The Levelling Up Goals architecture gives a clear benchmark for organisations to measure their impact against. The challenge now is for more purpose-led organisations, like the BBC, to do their bit to boost opportunity and social mobility as we attempt to build back better from Covid-19.”
