Watch: Justine argues that governments shouldn’t crack down on opportunity

I think when I saw the tweet today from Number 10 saying it was going to have a crackdown on low value degrees, I mean, governments have cracked down on people smugglers. They have crackdowns on criminals. They don't have crackdowns on opportunity. And from my perspective, I couldn't understand how this policy was really going to work because people drop out of doing degrees for all sorts of reasons that are nothing to do with the course itself.

It can be pressures at home, it can be financial issues. And surely if we want to level up, what we really needed to do was to focus on tackling those problems rather than saying to - overwhelmingly - people from disadvantaged communities, because you might not get your choice right, then we're going to stop you going to university.
