“Childcare provision is an important step forward” - Justine speaks on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg

Laura Kuenssberg:

Let's talk about what the government hopes will be a game-changer to childcare. So we heard the Education Secretary there say she was pretty confident and then very confident that any parent in England who wants their free childcare from April will get it. But Justine, you've introduced a fair few childcare proposals in your time in government. Do you think it's going to work?

The Rt Hon Justine Greening:

I think it's going to be very challenging. And I think it's a key test of competence for Rishi Sunak's government. So as Gillian Keegan rightly set out, the difficulty is you're working with thousands and thousands of individual childcare providers. But I do think it feels to me like there's a lot of catch-up going on at the Department for Education. And let's hope, because this is an important policy step forward, that parents are able to access that 33 hours of childcare that they've been promised.
