Minister and local MP visits Anchor’s Silk Court care home

Minister at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney, Rushanara Ali, recently visited her local Anchor care home, Silk Court, in the heart of her constituency to see how the organisation is delivering care for its residents. Anchor is England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for people in later life.

Rushanara has been MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney, and its predecessor Bethnal Green and Bow, since 2010. Having held a number of shadow frontbench posts, she was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in the new Labour Government in July 2024.  Rushanara was joined by Anchor Chief Executive, Sarah Jones, and was given a tour of Silk Court and its facilities, chatting with residents and care colleagues to find out about life at the care home and the range of services it offers.

Rushanara also met Silk Court care home’s manager, Renae Dixon, who said:

“It was great to welcome our local MP to Silk Court and we were able to show her all the fantastic person-centred care services we provide. Residents really enjoyed meeting her and having the opportunity to share their own experiences of the home.”

Thanking the team at Silk Court, Rushanara said:

“It was a pleasure visiting Silk Court care home and meeting residents and staff. I am hugely grateful to all the carers and the wider staff team for all they do to support the residents.”

Anchor Chief Executive, Sarah Jones, said:

“We were delighted to host Rushanara at Anchor’s Silk Court care home. I know the residents and team really enjoyed speaking with her and it was a great opportunity for Rushanara to see first-hand how our care colleagues are committed to delivering the highest standards of care and serving the local community.”

Anchor’s Silk Court Care Home offers first class residential and dementia care. Located in its own grounds, the home is close to local services and amenities such as shops, pubs and the local post office.
