Labour MP candidate Luke Charters visits Clifton Park Hospital in York to see high quality healthcare in action
Luke Charters - Labour’s Candidate for York Outer standing in this year’s General Election – has visited Clifton Park Hospital in the constituency to meet local doctors, nurses and wider staff working at the hospital to deliver high quality healthcare to patients across York, and further afield.
Luke met with Hospital Director Sandra Donoghue to discuss the wide range of treatments and services available at the hospital, which includes Orthopaedics, diagnostics and treatment of ear, nose and throat disorders. As well as visiting Clifton Park Hospital’s 24-bed inpatient ward, theatre suite and ambulatory care unit, Luke also saw the hospital’s latest state of the art technology, including the ROSA Robotic Knee Assistant, the robotic surgical assistant which helps surgeons in performing total knee replacement surgery.
During the visit, Luke also met with Head of Clinical Services, Holly Kitching, and Business Relations Manager, Jessica Hedley, to see ‘people caring for people’ in action. The hospital recently installed a new, state-of-the-art static MRI scanner, part of a £1.6m investment to reduce MRI wait times, providing high quality and expertly reported imaging to patients.
Clifton Park Hospital is part of Ramsay Health Care UK, which owns and operates 34 hospitals across the UK, caring for NHS patients, as well as those using private healthcare insurance or those who choose to self-fund their care.
During the visit, Luke also had the opportunity to learn more about the long-established relationship between Clifton Park Hospital and York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where a sub-contract in place for the hospital to deliver elective healthcare services in the locality. The relationship aims to improve the provision of services to the wider health community, including reducing both surgical and diagnostic NHS waiting times.
In 2023, Ramsay Health Care UK published their Social Impact Report with the Purpose Coalition, setting out how the organisation is breaking down barriers to opportunity and living up to its responsibilities as an employer.
