Ready for the real world: how can applied learning give young people skills for the future?

  • Charter 4, Manchester Central Conservative Party Conference (map)

Hosted by Young Enterprise and The Purpose Coalition

Improving education training and employment for young people could provide a £40bn boost to the UK’s GDP (PWC 2022). Applied learning is a crucial mechanism to achieve this by enhancing traditional teaching methods to engage students with real world skills through hands-on experiences and problem solving. Ready for the Real World is Chaired by former Education Secretary Rt Hon Justine Greening and will bring together Young Enterprise Chief Executive Sharon Davies MPs and young people who have taken part in Young Enterprise programmes to explore how government could future proof education by putting applied learning approaches at the heart of the classroom.

Speakers:

  • The Rt Hon Justine Greening, Chair, Purpose Coalition

  • Sharon Davies, Chief Executive, Young Enterprise

  • Robbie Moore MP, Member of Parliament for Keighley and Ilkley

  • Cllr Louise Mackinley, Deputy Leader, Essex County Council
